Bat CrossingÂ

10 million bats,Â
20 million little wingsÂ
flutter out from underÂ
the Congress Street BridgeÂ
in the blue-pink ombré of dusk.Â
The photo in the Austin airportÂ
captured the moment so perfectlyÂ
I had to take a pic.Â
In the frantic airport traffic, Â
millions of little feet about to soar,
I stop and fumble with my phone—
apps, angles, my tiny desireÂ
to witness. The man sees me,Â
stops, and waits. A flock of peopleÂ
moves around us. He waits, and forÂ
a few seconds, we hover on a tinyÂ
cloud of kindness. I get the shotÂ
and we float on.Â
Praise the little moments of seeing.Â
Praise the pause and patience we shareÂ
in the pixelated moments of life.
