Emmy Pérez

Emmy Pérez served as Texas Poet Laureate 2020. She is the author of the poetry collections Solstice, With the River on Our Face, and the forthcoming Boxes With Zero Tolerance and Paper america: New and Selected Poems. Her work has also appeared in Latino Poetry: The Library of America Anthology, Ghost Fishing: An Eco-justice Poetry Anthology, What Saves Us: Poems of Empathy and Outrage, Other Musics: New Latina Poetry, and Poetry Goes to the Movies, and other publications. She is a member of the Macondo Writers Workshop for socially engaged writers and has received fellowships from the NEA, CantoMundo, the Academy of American Poets, and United States Artists. In 2017, she co-founded Poets Against Walls collective. She has lived in the Texas border region since the year 2000, where she teaches creative writing.
